Sunday competition we will all be meeting at Ocean beach at 7.30am to make call on venue. • Bombing Range Cup won again

 

Good turnout and great day at the Bombing Range for the 8th annual cup day. There were 29 competitors from each club and we had waves, well only small, but few waist high sets and everyone got to have a surf which has not been happening in Perth lately. Final result was 881 to CLBC and 862 to MLBC so the result was close. Some good surfing was seen during the day, and much joking and laughing with the friendly rivalry we have with the Mulloloo club.     Bombing Range Cup won again - Wedge   Richo has the cup back again and probably on his mantlepiece now. A new award was made the Bombing Range Bone after a bone was found there.     Bombing Range Cup - Wedge   I will let Richo explain all this. Hi, double agent 42 has just reported in after intelligence operation at the agreed coordinates on sundays bombing range cup 2012, as per our cliub satelite positioning over the area, has confirmed the br bone is a fake and legal action against the mullaloo longboard club may proceed via the federal police, mick kelty has confirmed as a former head of the federal police and cott longboard club intel officer, that the federal court may hear the case, as it is on crown land. Also the discovery of an alleged 'bone' in the area has stirred the local residence and indigenious people that the bombing range may be a past burial site and thus a lands rite application may apply. The Mullaloo longboard club by its action have inadventantlyly jepardised access to the area by all surfers for a cheap shot. Also copyright infringement investigations are underway by the parties associated the name "bone" as regard an acrinim being used as a reference, to interested parties who have registered and used its brand as an enterprise, not a joke! Whilst controversy reigns in the longboard community, the results of the weekend bombing range cup are history, mullaloo lost, sweet revenge for the cott loss at the inter club of 2011. Kevin Anderson one minute, he's surfing a nice three foot bank and next thing twenty six four wheel drives turn up and and 30 longboarders paddle out for a free surf prior to the start of the comp? Whilst kevin and julia fight it out in Canberra, ando and there are no julia's in our club, fight it out at the reserved bank. Despite a strong start the mullaloo crew, their jet ski broke down and they were unable to tow their quadraplegics into take off area. Cottesloe using better local knowledge and tide variations on the banks and wave selection combined with, we have less members in rehab, win narrowly. The tally is now Cott five wins Mullaloosers three, congrats to all competitors and sponsors who made this a special day luv Hillary.   Thanks to all members that attended. The Bombing Range cup is on again this Sunday 19th February. It is an annual event of Cottesloe against the Mullaloo Longboard club and last year we won the cup back again. Currently it is CLBC with 4 wins and MLBC with 3 wins.     Bombing Range cup 2011 - Wedge   Pictures from last year » Photos   The format is usually two surfers from each club in the water, who will each catch two waves only to be scored on. Once the two waves are caught next surfer either on beach or waiting out there takes over. A tally of the points given by the three judges is kept, and a total made for the same no of surfers from each club. Last year was about 22 from each club, and result was CLBC 624.7 and MLBC 496. Always a fun day, and chance to meet and share laughs with the Mullaloosers. We will meet again at 7.30 am at the end of bitumen road near Wedge settlement. With the smaller swell it is most likely we will go down to the Bombing range this time. Winds are looking better now (Tuesday afternoon) with ESE predicted. Probably only chance of getting a wave on weekend and next week, as swell is tiny next week.   Reference link is » Willyweather - Wedge Island

A good first competition up at Wedge. We met 7.30am at Wedge then after a few water crossings, went north up the beach about 5km just past the yellow sign to where seemed to be the best waves. The wind was howling but offshore and plenty of waves with no one complaining about the size. After getting a good sand blasting the tent was set up and we kicked of with 25 competitors . Good to see many new members making the trip.     Club round #1 - Wedge   More » Photos CLBC Round #1 » Results 2012   The wind soon dropped and it warmed up, as bit cool at first. Some good surfing and the waves improved during the morning with some good size sets at times.We finished up at about midday after two rounds, and few beers and laughs were had to finish a good days surfing. Next comp is Sunday 19th of Feb at Wedge for the Bombing Range cup where we will be aiming to win again against the Mullaloo club .More on this closer to the day. • Round #1 - Wedge Island (05/02/2012)

Round one Sunday 5th Feb is being held up at Wedge Island either down at the Bombing range, South Rock or a spot about 4km North up the beach. We will meet at where the bitumen Rd ends at the Wedge settlement and we can organise for those that don’t have a four wheel drive to get a lift down the beach. Meet here at 7.30am as we need to get an early start as often wind comes in around 11am up there. Those that will be needing a lift please contact me 0422 480 569 or on email, so can organise with others the numbers for this.

Coming up to Wedge turnoff.

Wedge Island is about 170km North of Perth so about a two hour drive, or allow a little more if not been before. Head up the Indian Ocean Drive and go past the turnoff to Lancelin. Wedge is about another 30km up. The highway all of a sudden comes around a corner and you can see the ocean, see pic, and the Wedge island turn off is on the left after the turnoff to the photo taking spot. There is no sign saying Wedge Island as the locals take down. Follow road in and you will go past old tip, then there is the bombing range track on left, and further up is where we will meet.    Bombing Range Map. . . Click here to download (2,060 Kb)

At this stage, checking chart Monday afternoon, it is looking really good with ESE ( E and NE is best) and good size swell. I was there on Australia Day with a 2.5m swell (on Willy) and that was well over head high at Bombing range and a bit too intense, so surfed North of Wedge where there was a nice head high peak. Just up from the yellow sign for those that know this part of beach.

Will update this during week. I will most probably be going up there on Thursday which is looking excellent with increasing swell and E to NE winds. But conditions can change up there in next few days, and cyclone could affect. Reference link is » Willyweather - Wedge Island Willy Weather exaggerates with swell compared to Sea breeze, but very accurate on the wind. With over 3m swell expected South rock is a possibility or closer to Wedge on northern side. With ESE more protected here.

Hi Crew,

Please keep a look out for the Following board stolen from the roof rack of Peter Bray’s car at Bitumen’s Car park Falcon Bay the other weekend.

The Board is a Valla 9’6” and has very distinguishable markings. Pete bought the board over from Byron Bay and it cost a penny or two. Underside is Lt Grey.
